of
Sincliarville, Town of Charlotte, County of Chautauqua, and State of New York,
for divers good causes, and considerations now hereunto moving and in order to
encourage the youth of Sinclairville and vicinity to form good habits and taste
for reading and to promote the mental reinforcement of all in said place have
given, granted and confirmed and by these presents do give, grant and confirm
unto Alonzo Langworthy, H.W. Fields, Nelson Mitchell, Obed Edson, W.E.
Henderson, H.H. Allen, John A. Pearson, John T. Phelps, Edwin. L. Husted, A.A.
Stevens Jr., William Johnson, all of the Village of Sinclairville and vicinity
and their successors for the uses and purposes herein after specified and ascertained, my private library consisting of the books, pamphlets and writings,
designated in the schedule hereunto annexed: to have and to hold forever, all
and
singular said library, unto the above named persons and their successors, repose
the trusts nevertheless and to and for the uses, interests and purposes,
hereinafter invested described and declared that is, to say, as a public library in the for the Village of Sinclairville, for general circulation among
the peoples of said village and its vicinity, subject to such reasonable
restrictions, conditions and rules as a majority of the said trustees attending
their regular meetings shall impose at such meetings.
I. Elbridge P. McElroy, further, hereby expressly reserve the right as any time on or before the twenty first day of March 1871 to revoke and repeal in all respects this instrument and to the gifts above mentioned and to resume possession and ownership and control of the library aforesaid.
To secure and promote the purposes and objects of this gift and said persons are hereby authorized, should a majority of them so determine and deem proper to incorporate themselves under any existing laws of the State of New York or under any law that may be hereinafter enacted in this state for such purposes, and that said library and the trust above mentioned shall thereafter be held under, by and in accordance with such law and act of incorporation.
I, hereby, further, direct that the ministers of the Gospel now hereafter
located in said Village of Sinclairville be Ex Officio honorary members of the
society composed of the individuals above named and their successors.
