CIVIL WAR ERA CANNON

The civil war era cannon never saw active duty, but was forged in 1863.

Many civil war relics were distributed to Grand Army Divisions throughout the

United States.  In May 1908 it was given it was given in memory of the Civil

 War Grand Army Divisions in Kennedy.  In 2001 the cannon was refinished

 an  remounted on a boulder in the River Side Cemetery .  Assemblyman Bill

Parliment rededicated the cannon at the Memorial Day Ceremony that year.

Inscriptions on two plaques on the south side of the large granite stone

 memorial marker found in the old section of the cemetery are as follows:

INSCRIPTION ON THE MEMORIAL PLAQUE FOUND ON THE EAST SIDE
OF THE STONE IS AS FOLLOWS

To the patriotism of the Town of Poland which, with
unfailing loyalty, gave money and men in the time
of the Nation's peril.
To the One Hundred and Ten men who enlisted from the 
Town of Poland for  the Civil War of 1861 to 1865,
and to the soldiers of that war who have since 
become it's citizens.
To the men who enlisted from the Town for the
War with Spain in 1898.
To the nine soldiers of the War of the Revolution, 
and to the ten soldiers of the War of
1812 to 1814 who lie buried in the Town.
