What's the charge for late materials? Currently, it costs $.10 per day per item to a maximum of $3 per item. If the item is lost or irreperably damaged, the library will charge full value of the item. This includes holidays and days we are closed. Items returned in the drop box will be charged for the next day we are open. How long can I check something out for? Books and audiobooks are checked out for 2 weeks. Movies, CDs, new books, and magazines are checked out for 1 week. They can be renewed two times. How can I get an item you don't have? We are able to order books, movies, and music through other libraries in the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System. You can search the catalog yourself by clicking the "SEARCH CATALOG" link above to check availability but we recommend that you ask one of our staff to search for you. Items in the System do not cost you anything to order. We can also order materials out of System and even out of New York State, but there is a cost associated with that. Please speak to the Librarian for details. Can I renew my items over the phone? We prefer if you renew your materials in person so we can ensure they are correctly stamped in the new date, but we will renew over the phone if it is truly needed. Just be sure the items are on hand when you call, as our cards are sorted by date and you will need to know the current return date and write in the new one. How do I memorialize a book or other item? You may stop in and fill out a memorial form. However you can also call, e-mail, or mail the information and send a check in the mail. We would like to know the person the memorial is for, your name and address, including phone number. Also a name and address of a relative of the person the memorial is for. A letter of thanks will be sent to you and a letter to the relative will be sent so that they know a a memorial has been made. We would also like to know whether you would like a book memorialized or for the money to go into the general fund. All memorialized books receive a plaque and will be published in the pennysaver. If you are interested in donating an item as a memorial or have a specific item in mind, please speak to the Librarian to ensure the item is not a duplicate of one we already have. Does the library accept donated materials? Yes, the library gladly accepts donations. Depending on the condition and age of the donated materials the library will either process them to be part of the collection or put them in the book sale. No outdated encyclopedias, please. Does the library sell discarded materials? Yes. Book sales generally occur once a month and during special events such as Pioneer Days. Please check our main page and the Gowanda Pennysaver for the latest sale date. How much are photocopies? Photocopies are $.10 a page. Black and white only. Our machine is capable of making double sided copies. How much does it cost to send or receive a fax? Our faxes cost $2 for the first page and $1 each additional page. If you wish to receive a fax, please let us know ahead of time, as we do receive a lot of junk faxes and do not wish to accidentally throw out your fax. What are the rules about using your computers? Our computers have access to the Internet and programs for creating slide presentations, documents, and spreadsheets. Please sign up at the circulation desk to use a computer. Persons 17 and younger require a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian. Patrons each get 1 hour a day on the computer on a first-come, first served basis.
