Chautauqua Our fines for all materials are five cents for each day overdue that we are open. Books in the bookdrop are considered returned as of the last day we were open. Max per item is $4 and borrowing is blocked at $5.
Clymer Clymer has no specific charge - we just have a small box on the counter with a notice that we'd appreciate a donation if they are overdue.  It works quite well for us - people usually give between $1 and $10.  (And of course we have those that are persistently overdue and never offer a penny!)
Delevan Delevan does not have fines on any materials but Videos.  Fines are
$2.00 per day per video, not counting closed days  We do send out overdo letters as will as letters showing costs, etc.
Dunkirk
Ellicottville
Ellington Ellington charges 10 cents per day for books, magazines and audio books and $1 per day for movies with a $3 max on everything - though I usually get overdue stuff in the drop box with out the cash - even during open hours.

Franklinville
Fredonia
Frewsburg

Frewsburg does not charge fines- we went to the
donation method long ago and have found it to be just as
lucrative and much appreciated. We have considered starting
something again for videos, but so far have not.

Gowanda We charge 10 cents a day for adults, 2 cents a day for children and a dollar a day for  videos.
Jamestown 3 week materials = 5 cents per day; 2 week materials = 5 cents per day; 1 week materials = 15 cents per day.  Maximum fines are $3 for each adult item and $1 for each children's item.

Mayville We do not charge fines for any over due materials.  We suggest a donation and have received more from this process than if we had a specific amount designated.
Olean Olean charges a service fee of $.75 for each overdue notice sent. Usually just two.  Then we charge a $1.00 service fee for a billing letter.  We do not charge daily fines for items.
Portville
Randolph

Videos/DVDs - 50 cents per day with a maximum of $2.00

Sherman
Silver Creek Silver Creek charges $.15 a day for adult books,  Audio Books and magazines/$.05 for Children's, & $1.00 for videos.
Sinclairville Overdue books and magazines are $.05/day; videos and DVD's are $.25/day and $.10 if you don't rewind.  Initially rewinding was a problem, but after we strictly enforced and put a reminder on the VHS loaned, the situation hardly arises.

Usually the first group of fines never amount to more than $2.00.  Most VHS/DVD fines are paid before they reach more than $3.00.  Once or twice a year someone gets a fine for VHS/DVD over $5.00 and then we ask them to make a donation.

There is no plan to increase these.  Our system works and we have few lost books.

Fines at Other Libraries Across the Country

We charge $2 a day for videotapes and DVDs.  We believe that since our collection is small (relatively speaking), the daily fine should encourage people to bring them back on time.  Feature videos circulate for three days, while documentaries go out for a week. [Inglewood/Los Angeles, CA]

We don't charge fines.  We do have "express books" books that are very popular and circulate for three days for free, after that it is .25 a day.   If a patron is late by 60 days with a book, they are billed for the cost of the item.
Without fees/fines we don't have a problem getting items back. [Reading, MA]

Our fines for materials are .10 per day. The exceptions to that rule are
reference that we allow out for a special circumstance at .25 per day
and $1.00 per day for ILL (out-of-system materials that we get through
First Search).
As for due dates for videos, we have those in line with our DVDs and
music CDs- all those formats circ for one week, no renewals.
