In 2009 we offered our Summer Reading Program participants the opportunity to earn tickets for a drawing for a gift bag. Every time they completed a book review form for their age-group, they received another ticket for a chance to win the drawing.
Below are the reviews we received, arranged alphabetically by title.

Title: Anne of Green Gables    Author: L. M. Montgomery    ISBN: 9781602833623

Synopsis: Anne, an orphan girl, is mistakenly sent to Green Gables to live. The Cathberts, the owners of Green Gables, had requested that a boy be sent to their home. Throughout the story, Anne wins over the hearts of the Cathberts; first Andrew, then Marilla. Anne was known for her creative and energetic attitude and thinking.
Review: This book is a timeless classic, one for the whole family to enjoy. Anne's positive outlook on life is encouraging to its readers. It offers hope and brightens one's day.
Overall rating of this book (scale of 0=awful to 5=outstanding): 5
Would I recommend this book?  Yes- It is a very cute story with an enjoyable storyline. It is a pleasure to read.

Title: Barbie: A Day at the Fair Author: Carol Pugliano-Martin   ISBN:978-0375823688

Synopsis: Barbie took Kelly to the fair. Kelly was very eager to ride the ferris wheel. After  Kelly saw the ferris wheel, she was scared to go on it alone.
List three things that were most interesting about this book: 1) How Kelly was interested to go on the ferris wheel; 2) Kelly got scared because the ferris wheel was so big; 3) Barbie and Kelly rode the ferris wheel together.

Are the pictures very eye-catching, and do they follow the story?: Yes- It helped me see what they were seeing.

Would you recommend this book?: Yes- It was fun to read but boys may not like to read it.

Review: Marie's stories are down to earth. She seems fairly "normal" for a celebrity. She opens up on how she has handled all kinds of situations; kids, celebrities, her family, and how she fit into her Dancing With the Stars gown! Too funny!

What did you especially enjoy or dislike about this book?: I enjoyed the characters.

Would you recommend this book to a friend?: Yes- It is full of action and suspense.

Synopsis: This movie is about a boy named Flint Lockwood that dreams he can become a real scientist.

Are the characters or the subject interesting?: One very special character I liked was Sam Sparks because she sounds smart and she is very nice.

What did you especially enjoy or dislike about this movie?: I really liked all of his inventions.

Would you recommend this movie to a friend?: Yes- I would recommend it because it is hilarious and makes you hungry.

Describe the text. Does it flow well? Does it hold your attention? Are the characters or the subject interesting?: Through the whole book, I kept on reading and did not want to put it down because it was so funny.

What did you especially enjoy or dislike about this book?: I enjoyed it when Mrs. Libby said Jolly Greg.

Would you recommend this book to a friend?: Yes- I really liked it because it made me laugh and my friends like that kind.

Synopsis: Rachel is forced to move to Boston where she begins to care for a burned fire horse. In the end, Rachel saves dozens of horses from a big fire and tries to pursue her dream as a veterinarian.

Describe the text. Does it flow well? Does it hold your attention? Are the characters or the subject interesting?: The book is very interesting. The main character Rachel is bold and courageous with a huge passion for horses. The story is well flowing, entertaining, and very suspenseful.

What did you especially enjoy or dislike about this book?: It was about horses!

Would you recommend this book to a friend?: Yes- It was very interesting, entertaining, and suspenseful.

Synopsis: First, a mother cat has just given birth to 4 kittens. Then, they can not see or hear because their eyes and ears are close. She stays with them for four days. Next, the kittens are two weeks old and they open their ears and eyes. They can not walk yet, but they can crawl. They play with everything they can find. Last, they are eight weeks old and stopped getting mild from their mother and they eat solid food. They can do everything a grown-up cat can do.

List three things that most interested you about this book: a) Each kitten has his own special nipple; b) The kitten playing in a basket; c) The kitten getting tangled in beads.

If a picture book, are the pictures eye-catching, and do they follow the story: Yes- they tell how they grow.
 

Would you recommend this book to a friend?: Yes- Because it is funny.

Synopsis: The vikings didn't like dragons. Hiccup found a nightfury. His dad found the rest. The dragons were friends with the vikings.

Are the characters or the subject interesting?: Three characters I liked were Hiccup, he rode the nightfury. Also, there were his friends too.

What did you especially enjoy or dislike about this movie?: Hiccup rode a nightfury.

Would you recommend this movie to a friend?: Yes- It is an amazing and adventurous movie.
