Press Release Date: July 3, 2009 HEADLINE: Delevan-Yorkshire Public Library hosts quilt show and demonstration “Create a Quilt Show @Your Library,” a display of home-made quilt projects, running July 6-14, in the Anderson Community Room of the Delevan-Yorkshire Public Library features works by local artisans. The show will culminate with a “Quilting Tips and Tricks” demonstration on July 14th, 6;00 to 8:00 p.m., by Sandy Pirdy, owner of Creekside Fabric & Quilts shop in Arcade, NY. “We have many talented crafters living in and around Delevan,” said Library Director Gwen Bixby. “During our summer reading program, which has the theme, ‘Be Creative @ Your Library,’ we wanted to highlight some of the local talent.” All of the quilts to be displayed were created by area residents, she said. Items displayed include a bed-size quilt, “Trip Around the World,” a first quilting project by Library Clerk Valerie Sullivan, and table toppers and wall-hangings by Library Trustee Rose Lavrey, and former Trustee Dorothy Titus. Additional items will be on loan from the Heart and Hands club headed by Sandy Tuttle. “We meet once a week to learn and do,” Mrs. Tuttle said. “We learn from each other and make projects for charity.” Some of their creations have been donated to families who were burned out, and to children in foster or adoptive care through the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services, she said. The quilt projects will be open for free viewing during regular library hours. For more information about library hours or programs, please call the library at 716-492-1961, or visit the library website: http://www.cclslib.org/delevan. |
