Portville Heritage Day, July 11, will be here before you know it. The Friends of the Library are trying something new this year. They are having a Community Treasure Sale along with their legendary book sale. The Community Treasure Sale is a collective lawn sale located on the library’s lawn. Participants provide their own tables, chairs, and shade to sell their family treasures. The Friends provide a great location to sell your unused items, along with FREE advertising. A spot to set up your table is currently being offered to the community for a ten dollar donation on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Friends are taking a chance on a “Lucky Raffle” on Heritage Day. This is how it works! Only 300 tickets are available with the face value 001 to 300. If you purchase 5 tickets, you pay the total face value of the numbers. Example: You chose tickets with the numbers 005, 100, 067, 234, and 013. The total amount you pay is $4.19. The lucky recipient wins a $100 Greater Olean Chamber of Commerce Gift Certificate.
Children may sign up now at the Portville Free Library for the summer reading program, "Be Creative @ the Library". The kick-off program will be on Monday, July 6th at 6:30 PM with "Food? Gross!" We will be playing with food and then eating it. Each Monday evening will have a theme for ways to be creative (with puppets, drama, movement with music, etc.) and our closing program will be on Friday, August 14th with different ways to have fun with water. Children that read books from our library, and turn in their reading logs, will receive exciting prizes. There will also be drawings for Wal-Mart gift certificates for all children that attend our special programs. The Artmobile from St. Bonaventure will be coming to our library on July 7, 14, and 21 at 11:00 AM to present the program, "Take a Look at Matisse". Children entering 3 grade - just completing 6th are invited to register so they can participate in learning more about the life of Matisse, his style of artwork, and to create one of their own. The college student teaching this program is very enthusiastic and your child/grandchild will have a great time! Children should try to be present all three weeks in order to complete their project but not mandatory. Please call to register now since the space is limited to 12 students.
Friday morning story time begins
again on Friday, July 10 at 10 am. You are invited to listen to
entertaining stories, make crafts and have a great time joining in
outside games when weather permits. Preschool and elementary
children are welcome to participate.
